Fence for Mara Kissa

Our new garden between Mara Kissa and Busura is under construction.

In January 2025, Kerstin Gebhardt took a look at the new project in Mara Kissa. This garden has been on the waiting list for some time. The call for help came from the local village teacher, who is also trained in agriculture. The women and men of Mara Kissa are trying to cultivate the land, but the biggest problem is the free-roaming cattle. At the moment, the men are sleeping on site to drive the cattle away. Otherwise all the effort would be in vain.
The advantage is that the borehole, tower, pump and two solar cells are already in place. This means that the 150 x 150 meter plot only needs to be fenced in for the time being.
As always, the village elder, many women and our contact person are present at the on-site appointments. Kerstin took a close look at the situation and had the situation explained to her. Of course, she also tested the teacher's knowledge of agriculture. She was very surprised and pleased. Finally someone who understands his subject. So we agreed that he would visit the women in our other gardens and pass on his knowledge to them. It's a great win-win situation.

The villagers have already shown a great deal of initiative. They financed the 31-metre-deep borehole, the tower, a pump and, for the time being, two solar cells themselves. They took out a loan for the necessary water tank. Hats off to this achievement. This shows how important a functioning garden is to them. The area is already being cultivated. However, the fence is still missing.

After consultation with the members, the residents received the go-ahead in mid-April 2025 and the necessary fencing material for the area was delivered. The men started work immediately.
We will soon be installing more solar panels and building the necessary water basins. But all in good time.

For this we need the necessary money and your support. If you are also convinced that this project should receive further help, then click on the following link at betterplace, 80 Euro for a water basin (click on this link to go to betterplace).
Thank you very much already.
