I arrived

I'm often asked why I don't relax and do something good for myself during my vacation. My answer to that is very simple: There is nothing more relaxing than a good gut feeling  and nothing is like that
good as doing the right thing.

I arrived

Elke Dartsch

I get off the plane and with me the feeling that I have simply arrived. Arriving is like coming home. Although I've only been here once before, everything feels familiar. The warm air, the sounds and smells. I enjoy this first moment and realise that familiarity doesn't take a lot of time, just that gut feeling of doing the right thing.

And that's exactly what it is - RIGHT

The members of Hand in Hand e. V. help people to help themselves. The garden in Kitty is the best example of this. Of course I am proud that the people from my home town financed the well in the second garden. They did it because they can see that their donations are really going where they are needed. Thanks to the organisation's constant reporting, they can witness the successes and even if things don't go smoothly somewhere.

It is an indescribably good feeling to create something together with the local people. Not for them - but with them. Of course, two completely different cultures collide here. If you haven't understood it by now, you'll learn what acceptance and tolerance mean for both sides. I sometimes secretly admire the patience of the club chairmen. On my second trip, I realised that a certain amount of deceleration would also do us good in some things. Although these people are among the poorest in our world, you can always feel their zest for life and their smiles. I miss this smile in Germany, in the well-stocked supermarket, when visiting the doctor for free and also when strolling through the streets.

People often ask me why I don't relax and do something good for myself on holiday. My answer to this is quite simple: there is nothing more relaxing than a good gut feeling and nothing is as good as doing the right thing

good as doing the right thing.
