In mid-August 2024, our head of association, Kerstin Gebhardt, visited the village of Kunjata. The village is very close to Farafenni. Kunjata has been on our waiting list for a long time. We decided in favour of it because we already have a borehole. The village elder, the imam, the alcalo (mayor) and all the men and women came together at the meeting. It was a very friendly group who were delighted with our support. There was a meeting and, as is customary, the men sat on one side and the women on the other. The women could hardly believe their luck as they had been waiting so long for a garden. We were serenaded by the women as a farewell gift.
Just two weeks after we promised our support, work began on building the fence. In mid-September, we received the news that the site had been enclosed with 600 metres of fencing. The subsequent work, such as the water tower, solar panel and water basin, had to be postponed. The melons are still ripening at the planned site. But if the further construction work is realised at this speed, another project can be handed over at the end of the year. But this can only happen with your support.
